Frequently asked questions.
Straight answers about residential mental health treatment, insurance, admissions, and what daily life looks like inside our program.
- What is residential mental health treatment?
- Residential (inpatient) mental health treatment is a live-in level of care where adults receive 24/7 psychiatric oversight, daily individual and group therapy, medication management, and structured programming inside a safe therapeutic environment.
- How long is inpatient mental health treatment at Hillside?
- Most adults stay 30–60 days. Length of stay is personalized based on symptoms, response to treatment, and aftercare readiness.
- How do I know if I need inpatient mental health treatment?
- If symptoms are affecting your safety, if outpatient therapy and medication haven't produced meaningful improvement, or if daily life has become unmanageable, it's worth a confidential conversation with our admissions team.
- Does insurance cover mental health treatment?
- Yes. Most major commercial insurance plans cover medically necessary residential mental health treatment. Hillside runs a free, confidential benefits verification.
- How much does inpatient mental health treatment cost?
- With in-network insurance, most clients pay only their plan's out-of-pocket costs. Private-pay and financing options are available if you're uninsured.
- What conditions do you treat?
- We treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and trauma, OCD, personality disorders, and co-occurring substance use disorders in adults.
- Do you accept clients from outside Pennsylvania?
- Yes. Hillside serves adults across the Tristate region, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, and welcomes clients from anywhere in the country.
- What can I bring to residential treatment?
- Comfortable clothing, personal toiletries, prescription medications in original packaging, and personal items such as books, journals, or photos. We provide a full packing list at admission.
- Can my family be involved in treatment?
- Yes. Family therapy and family psychoeducation are part of our program. Loved ones often play a critical role in long-term recovery.
- What happens after residential treatment?
- Every client leaves with a personalized aftercare plan, including outpatient therapy referrals, medication management, alumni support, and step-down programming as needed.
- Is admissions really available 24/7?
- Yes. You can call (267) 774-2670 any hour of any day, including holidays. Confidential support is always one call away.
